Grade 4 River Rafting At The Outskirts Of Kuala Lumpur

Recently, I discovered that I don’t have to travel far to experience a Grade 4 river. An extreme sports adventure is much closer to Home than I expected.

THE RIVER

Somewhere at the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, lies the devious Selangor River. Hidden at the town of Kuala Kubu Bahru, this Grade 4 river will take you 4 hours to conquer. The river ranges from Grade 2 to 4.

I decided to engage OXBOLD as my preferred rafting company. OXBOLD is a No. 1 extreme sports adventure company in Malaysia. They are able to arrange for you ANYTHING crazy you have in mind. Very customer-oriented and does a follow-up on your experience.

PRICE FOR ONE FULL DAY OF RAFTING: RM 200 / USD 60

HOW TO GET TO PICK-UP POINT (KUALA KUBU BAHRU TRAIN STATION):

From Kuala Lumpur, it is a good 2 and half hours via train.

Since I stayed at the hostel near Bukit Bintang, here’s how my route to the pick-up point goes:

TRAVELLER TIPS: Do note that I took the train throughout the journey. Cheap and convenient. There are ALOT of cheap hostels around the Bukit Bintang area. I recommend Serenity Hostel. Also recommended by Tripadvisor.

Route via KTM (Malaysia railway):
• Your destination is Kuala Kubu Bahru Station

Bukit Bintang -> Central Station (change train to the one towards Rawang. Take note that you have to walk 5 minutes to the main terminal) -> Rawang (alight here and cross the overhead bridge and walk towards the train that goes to Kuala Kubu Bahru. Signages are clearly visible. Else, just ask the locals).

Total cost for transports: RM 21 / USD 6

Use the exact same routes (on reverse) when you’re returning back to Bukit Bintang.

TRAVELLER WARNING: Be mentally prepared. Don’t underestimate the calm current at the beginning of the river.

Once you’re all prep up with the safety briefing and safety gears, the raft guide will want you to jump into the river to a certain point. At this point of time, you WILL be drinking ALOT of water.

Words simply cannot describe the wrath of the river so I’ll leave you with this video from OXBOLD.

OXBOLD does a very good job in snapping your finest moments. ALL your photos will be sent via DROPBOX.

Price: RM 10 / USD 3 per email. Now ain’t that dirt cheap?

LATEST UPDATE!

OXBOLD will be organising a 3D2N Grade 6 (there is a Grade 6?!) river rafting at Singoh River, Gerik, Perak in May. Contact them for the the full itinerary.

Let’s get wet!
